| Ephesus was an antique city which was located in what is today Turkey, and is one of the best preserved ancient cities in the world. The Museum of Ephesian Sculpture is part of the Museum of Fine Arts, however it is not located in the main building but rather in the Hofburg, on the other side of the Ringstrasse. The museum celebrates Ephesian culture, its sculpture and architecture. It has many valuable Ephesian records, as well as architectural models, armor and other items that stem from Roman Times in Asia Minor. Perhaps the most impressive piece is the 40m long piece of the Parthian Frieze (originally it was 70m long), which depicts military scenes, including images of hunting, the art of riding and victory. |
