Danube Tower

The Danube Tower was built in 1962 to 1964, as part of the preparation for 1964’s International Garden Show, which took place in Vienna that year.  Since then, the Danube Tower has become one of the most popular outlook spots for tourists and Viennese alike, with a view that on clear days stretches for over 80 kilometers.  The tower is 252 meters high, at the outlook platform, at 150 meters, can be reached via two elevators.   One can also reach the platform via a staircase with 779 steps; however these stairs are usually used just once a year, at the annual “Danube Tower Run,” where athletes compete to be the first to reach the top on foot. There are two rotating restaurants on the Danube Tower:  the Café Panorama, at 160 meters, and the Donauwalzer, at 170 meters above ground.  For diners that do not suffer from vertigo, these restaurants offer amazing views of Vienna and the areas surrounding it; a complete rotation takes 26, 39 or 52 minutes.  For people who want a add a bit of a thrill to their Vienna experience, there is a bungee jumping station on the outlook platform, which is open in the summers, weather-permitting.
